"Game Testing Marketing Yourself"

Tester Self Marketing

Marketing Your Name

Marketing your name can increase how much work you get and the quality of the work you get. Being recognized can lead to different opportunities and increase your gaming status. There are several different kinds of ways to get your name out in the open. One way is create your own website, if you don't know HTML just get a free Microsoft program like Frontpage. Directing people towards your website is like showing them your portfolio. So SHOW EM YOUR SKILLZ! In other words show the games you worked on or your personal favorites. Also you can list the types of hardware you know and technical knowledge or experience you might have.

Besides developing your personal tester portfolio, you can get to know the gaming community. This can be harder than you think because the gaming community is very hostile (if you don't already know). Talking to people on forums is a good way to get your name out there, just make sure you keep a similar name between registrations (recommended to use your actual name). Don't talk smack on the forums unless there is a significant purpose, and answer forums with informative responses. Also an easy way to refer people to your website is to write blogs with a link to your site. Try registering to sites like IGN.com, GameTrailers, 1UP, GameSpot etc. Getting testing jobs and new companies will be explained in depth after signing up.
Xbox 360 Game Conventions and Events

There are a ton of events all throughout the year that have to do with games. It can be better for your career to attend a lot of these events and talk to publishers and developers face to face. After gaining enough money from your initial testing you can fly out to these events and associate your name with your testing. Check for dates on the following events: E3, E for All, CES, GDC, Game releases, Ubidays, EA Showcase, WCG, VGA, Capcom event, Games convention and even Sony's Gamers Day if you really want to. Now a lot of events may only happen once or the name might be changed but keep on the mail list to these companies and find out which ones you can attend. Meet other xbox 360 testers at E3
